Start with the cabinets

Look at the boxes as a set, not one at a time. A rental array lives on trucks, and the rigging hardware takes the abuse first. Check every flybar, pin and captive fitting. Bent or seized rigging is expensive to replace and, more importantly, it is what holds the array in the air. Cosmetic wear on the cabinet finish is normal and does not affect performance. Cracked baffles, water damage or corroded grilles do.

Ask about driver hours and history

Cabinets do not tell you how hard they have been pushed. A box that spent three years on a festival main hang has done far more work than one used for corporate events. Ask whether drivers have been reconed or replaced, and when. An honest seller knows the history.
